MGC puts Arab Health visitors under the spotlight

MGC Lamps, one of Europe’s largest lighting distributors to the medical sector, is inviting visitors to go under the spotlight in Hall 7, Stand C20 and test their surgical skills. Going up against the clock, visitors will be invited to take part in the much loved childhood game of ‘Operation’.

As visitors compete to make it onto the ‘MGC’s Operation Leader Board’, they’ll also have the opportunity to find out more about MGC’s array of specialist replacement lamps and lighting consumables for operating theatres, endoscopy, microscopy, phototherapy and diagnostic procedures. The delegate with the quickest and lightest touch will be announced at the end of the show.

At the Arab Health Show, MGC will be exhibiting a wide range of products designed specifically for medical, scientific, research and educational use and will be revealing new additions to its product portfolio. MGC is also taking the opportunity to officially launch its new Medical & Scientific Lamp Catalogue - an up-to-date reference guide to help medical buyers, maintenance technicians and engineers save time and money when buying medical light sources and equipment.

14th National Aquarium Workshop - Torquay

The workshop consisted of talks from various movers and shakers of the aquatic world, on subjects as varied as caring for giant octopus, to designing a rainforest themed aquarium exhibit.

The National Aquarium Workshop (NAW) was formed to allow professionals in the British public aquarium sector to get together in order to exchange thoughts and ideas on subjects such as education, nutrition, breeding, behaviour, enrichment and latest filtration methods and has become an annual event hosted by a different institution each year.

On Tuesday 18th October Sali Trade held their 5th annual Open Day at the Hypo Centre in Zagreb, Croatia.

MGC Lamps were among the companies participating as trading partners of Sali Trade. Also present were Robe, ETC, Showled, Philips Selecon, Rosco, Gerriets and City Theatrical.
Sali Trade have a wealth of experience of both lighting and sound within the entertainment industry working closely with theatres, TV companies, and concert organisers.

National Biomedical and Clinical Engineering Conference

Well the snow has finally caught up with us in Suffolk today , a thick white blanket of it all across the County causing chaos on the roads and many schools and businesses to be closed ...

Once again our intrepid travellers have been walking the halls of a trade show. This time it was the turn of Wendy (Medical Sales) and Steve (UK Sales Manager ) to visit the annual Medica show in Dusseldorf.

Steve and Wendy here not quite measuring up to the giant Surgeon ...'he's behind you' !!!

And we aren't quite sure what Wendy was up to here with this anatomical 'dummy' , whispering sweet nothings ??, checking for signs of life ??? or maybe just taking a closer look !

Export Sales Director David Jackson met with clients and suppliers from around the World at Light Middle East held last week in Dubai...

The amazing Burj Khalifa building outside ....

and a rather brave David on the 128th floor of the inside. What an amazing view !

The quite extraordinary 'Ski Dubai' -5 celcius inside and snowing whilst it was 36 outside ...only in Dubai !!

The fabulous Hotel Atlantis on The Palm , our accounts department are praying that David's expenses don't include a bill from here ....

And finally the Burj Al Arab , a stunning piece of architecture and iconic of the Dubai skyline.

MGC have been exhibitors for the past 5 years at the National Biomedical & Clinical Engineering Conference in Birmingham , sponsored by Philips.

Martin Agar and Wendy Bradbury represented our medical division. They worked into the evening setting up our stand and couldn't wait to get to the pub (purely for food of course!) after everything was ready for the show.

An early start was in order the next morning and a long day on their feet was ahead of them selling light guide fibre optic cables and specialist lamps.

It was a long , tiring but enjoyable day. I don't think they misbehaved themselves ...hopefully we will be invited back to this event for Medical Engineering Managers next year !

The Next Generation Of Entertainment lighting from Philips.

MGC has just taken delivery of its first batch of the amazing new MSD Platinum 5R lamps. These small but mighty wonders are the light source of the new Clay Paky Sharpy - a tiny moving head with the equivalent light output of a fixture with a lamp nine times as powerful as the MSD Platinum 5R.

Due to its tiny arc and reflector, the lamp helps the Sharpy produce a concentrated beam of light that looks more like a laser!

The lamp itself has an astonishing 2000hr lifespan, can be fitted in seconds and has a colour temperature of 8000k

We have had great fun here at MGC Lamps today and raised money for a great cause the MacMillan World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

It would seem that we have some very talented bakers among us and some very generous people too.

There was quite a spread of goodies to eat ....

A prize draw for those that are partial to a tipple ....

Everybody ate plenty and gave generously ...

All happy and on a sugar high !!!

After a final count up we have raised a fantastic ...

£135.00 !!!

Did you know that MGC has its very own dedicated Medical Technical Sales department for the UK and Ireland?

Wendy Bradbury joined us in 2002, with previous sales experience, (but a million miles away from lamps in credit referencing!). She has become our 'fount of all knowledge' in our world of medical lamps. She's got several nicknames in the office ... Nurse Wendy, Dr Bradbury, or even just Woo ....!!!

Martin Agar joined MGC in October 2007.
A former business owner and with several years experience in the Battery industry, Martin was ideally suited to work in and help to contribute to grow our medical dept. Martin has amassed a great deal of Medical lamps knowledge and has recently been pioneering our sales in fibre optic cables for medical equipment.

Wendy and Martin's customers are primarily Hospitals, Universities, Vets, Dentists as well as some Service Companies.

The lamps they sell are used in surgical light sources, examination lights, diagnostic instruments, microscopes - you name it - if it is used in equipment that goes in you, up you or looks over you, then Wendy and Martin probably know of a lamp for it!

They are able to cross reference replacement lamps for most makes and models of medical equipment and in addition to lamps, they are also now selling fibre optic light guide cables for surgical procedures at very competitive prices.

A brand new MGC Medical Lamps catalogue is currently being written with comprehensive details of our range of Medical and Scientific lamps, watch this space for more details soon.

Colchester Zoo, Lakes & Church ...

MGC Lamps have recently supplied Colchester Zoo with Pulsar LED colour change light fittings and controllers for two major lighting schemes on the Zoo premises.

All Saints Church is recently restored ruin on the Zoo site. It is used during some of the Zoos theme nights, such as their Halloween 'Shriek Week' and as a setting for a variety of activities.

MGC Lamps supplied a number of different Pulsar Tricolour RGB fittings, including ChromaFlood 200, ChromaFlood 100 Round, ChromaBatten 100, ChromaBatten 50 and ChromaInGround 50, as well as a ChromaZone 12 driver and OutStation 1 DMX controller. These are used to create a number of different lighting effects to create and enhance the atmosphere of the theme.

Additionally, MGC have supplied a number of ChromaZone 200 Tricolour fittings which are lighting the three lakes in the zoo, again these are used to enhance the theme nights, and to help create the correct environment.

These stunning effects seem to have caught the attention of a few of the Zoo's inhabitants too !!!
